Scientists at Meta said they had noticed how the company's artificial intelligence (AI) systems were improving without human intervention.

“In recent months, we have begun to see glimmers of self-improvement in our AI systems,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a research note published on the company’s website on July 30. “While progress is slow, it is undeniable.”

Zuckerberg added that self-improving AI is the first step toward achieving artificial superintelligence (ASI) — intelligence that can surpass human cognitive abilities.
