Sky Box is getting an update this week and millions of users won't want to miss it.
There's something new coming to Sky this month that's not to be missed, especially if you have a four-legged pet. The new channel BonfireNight (Sky channel 310) launches on November 1 and has been designed to help dogs and their owners stay calm during fireworks displays.
“Because of their keen hearing, especially in the high-frequency range, many of our furry friends don't like fireworks,” explained veterinarian and radio host Dr. Scott Millet.
“Because they occur unexpectedly and involve flashes, bangs and vibrations, these festive displays cause anxiety in at least 50% of dogs and cats.”
Amazon is discontinuing its popular Fire TV Stick — is it time for you to move on to something new?
Sky has confirmed that content appearing on the platform will include carefully curated films chosen by the Sky team and the Dogs Trust to minimise the stress of explosions and flashes.
Experts from a leading pet charity believe that positive and calming films can help dog owners stay calm and happy, which in turn helps their pets relax.
There are 21 blockbusters coming out this week, including David Brent: Life on the Road, Step Brothers, E.T., the Bridget Jones trilogy and Shrek.
To make viewing even more enjoyable, Sky users can even 'growl' into their voice remotes to instantly switch to the channel they want.
In addition to Sky users, NOW Cinema subscription holders will also be able to watch BonfireNight films on their streaming devices.
A free update is coming to iPhone, but only if your device is on this list
Commenting on the update, Jamie Morris, Sky’s director of content strategy and performance, said: “As a dog lover, I know how stressful Bonfire Night can be. So we wanted to create something supportive to help dogs and their owners. Working with the experts at Dogs Trust and using their deep understanding of dog behaviour, we’ve scoured Sky Cinema’s extensive back catalogue of hits to ensure both pets and their owners are given genuine comfort and support.”
And Jenna Kiddy, head of dog behaviour at Dogs Trust, added: “Fireworks season can be particularly distressing for dogs, as loud explosions and flashes can cause fear and anxiety. Around half of dogs in the UK experience some degree of stress from fireworks, and fear can develop even in animals that have not previously shown anxiety. Dogs react to fireworks in different ways, so it’s important to have a clear plan in place to help your pet cope with the situation.”
“A calm and relaxed environment can play a big part in helping your dog feel safe and supported during fireworks season, so owners should plan a cosy evening with them. Close the curtains, turn on the TV and if your dog seems anxious, try to distract them with a game or treat to take their mind off the noise from outside. For more advice on how to prepare your dog for fireworks, visit the Dogs Trust website.”
