For many today, blogging is no longer just a pastime, but a way of life. A life's calling, finally discovered… But no matter how much these people would like to “immerse themselves in the web” entirely, part of our lives still takes place outside our favorite blog, and the internet in general.
And if a person has taken up blogging seriously and developed some useful skills, it would be foolish not to apply them in ordinary, “non-blogging” life.
Take me, for example, better known as Smeet. I've never been a professional journalist or writer. Blogging—running about 50 blogs on specific topics—gave me the skills to quickly write articles, and then books (on practically any topic that interested me).
First, let's define what skills regular blogging provides, and then think about how and where they can be applied.
1. The ability to write quickly, efficiently, and consistently. The applications of this skill are simply countless: corporate blogging, online journalism—publishing your articles for a fee or for a percentage of the advertising placed on the same page. If you're really lucky, you might even get noticed by print editors. However, don't count on the latter—on the contrary, there's a trend toward the opposite, with journalists moving from print to online publications.
2. Self-management skills: planning, time management, the ability to “force yourself to work no matter what,” and to complete any task, even the most difficult, by a deadline. These skills are in demand everywhere and always; you just need to learn how to market them profitably, which is why almost every successful blogger very quickly acquires…
3. Online and offline promotion, PR, and marketing skills: the ability to move in the right direction, attract attention, track and follow profitable trends. Essentially, the ability to create a successful brand. This is in demand now and will be in demand everywhere and always in the future.
4. Creative thinking: the ability to generate new ideas, including crazy ones (without quotes), is also in demand almost everywhere. And a successful blogger, as a rule, also brings them to life!
5. Regular monitoring of the blogosphere (essentially constant public opinion research) and skills in working with communities and social media are very helpful in building structures in network marketing companies. This is certainly not a “typical” activity, but why not give it a try?
6. Webmastering (website building) skills can be monetized (made into money) both directly, by helping others create websites for money, and indirectly, by placing your advertising links on websites created for other people.
7. The ability to “pull” money from many different sources is more important than ever now, when everyone is shouting “crisis, crisis!” “A little helps a man” – this folk wisdom has been around for centuries.
8. Many bloggers, unable to find ideas for super posts on the Russian-language internet, turn to… the bourgeois internet. Computer translators are constantly improving, so why not start working in the “Wild West” right away? There's definitely more money there than in the RuNet. And not by a lot…
Well, in conclusion, I'll give you some tips on how to effectively use this information. The idea isn't new, of course, but “ordinary” people don't usually do it. Only the successful, the “lucky ones”…
After reading this article, simply type in a separate file in a text editor and write:
1) where you can already apply the acquired skills;
2) which of the described skills still need to be developed;
3) a plan for applying and acquiring these skills.
And… go for it. Start acting now! You will succeed! “Nothing on earth passes without a trace” –
a smart, no, the smartest idea…
