A woman has sparked controversy after sharing the name of her expectant mother's baby, which was inspired by the nuclear disaster.
On the Reddit forum r/tragedeigh, a user posted a photo of a baby shower invitation, adding the caption: “I'm speechless.”
“We invite you to a baby shower,” reads the pink invitation, which features balloons, stars, a moon and an elephant.
“Join us to celebrate the upcoming arrival of a little bundle of joy! In honor of: Chernobyl Hope,” the invitation reads.
The title refers to the deadly 1986 nuclear disaster in Ukraine, which occurred at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. At the time, Ukraine was under the control of the communist Soviet Union, and the disaster occurred at a plant built by the Soviets. Ukraine gained independence in 1991.
