New York State Police received an unusual call and were ultimately forced to capture an alpaca that was on the loose.

Westchester County police said they received a report Thursday morning of a llama that had escaped from Kisco Avenue, although it was actually an alpaca.

“We get a lot of interesting 911 calls and this one came in at 10:09 a.m. in Commo today,” the police department wrote on its social media. “Ultimately, it was an alpaca that got away, but it’s still a pretty good initial description compared to some of the others we get.”

“The alpaca was quickly captured thanks to the quick response of Officers Mirko and Rodriguez,” the department added.

Police said the animal “escaped from a trailer next to the MTK Hotel on Pat Reilly Way”.

The alpaca then headed to Kisco Avenue near a Land Rover dealership, and the department jokingly suggested the animal might be “looking to upgrade its vehicle.”

After the alpaca was captured, officers reunited it with its owner.

“We can only guess, but we think there was a child's birthday party going on somewhere that went as planned,” police said.

Alpacas are herd animals native to the Andes Mountains of South America. They are often used in petting zoos and children's activities.

Although related to llamas, the smaller alpacas are a separate species within the camelid family.
