A woman has gone viral on Reddit after writing an angry post against people she believes are “stealing” from her private garden when they visit a local farm stand near her property. To date, her post has received over 17,000 reactions and numerous comments.

“And before anyone says, 'Just build a fence,' we can't afford that right now,” the senior official said.

A woman who did not give her location wrote: “My neighbor opened one of these pantries/farm stands where people can take produce from their garden, as well as donated items from the pantry, etc.”

She added: “In theory it's a great idea, especially [when] people are struggling to provide for themselves (including my family).”

However, she said the problem was that “people started coming into my yard and taking things from my garden.”

A story posted on Reddit tells of a neighbor “opening one of those pantries/farm stands where people can bring in produce [grown] from their garden, as well as donated items from their pantry, etc.” (iStock)

She said she “put up signs saying no. I put up a rabbit fence around the garden. I put up a tarp so you can't see what's in there from the road. People just hold their kids over the fence to pick tomatoes and beans or jump over it.”

She said she had “argued” with one woman about this.

“I yelled, 'Hey, stop! This isn't for you.' She told her child to move faster, and then she tried to run away.”

The Reddit poster said she then “caught up with her” and the woman asked her what was wrong: “Why am I so mad? Am I really that upset over a couple of tomatoes?”

“Can't you really afford to share?”

The author of the Reddit post responded: “I'm upset that you're stealing from me.”

The woman who posted her story on Reddit mentioned that she suggested to her neighbor that they move the garden tent “to the other side of the driveway so it's next to the other neighbor's house. They don't have a front yard.”

But it didn't seem to work.

She said the neighbor responded, “Can't you really afford to share?”

A woman on Reddit claimed that people are taking her vegetables not “because they're hungry,” but because they want her tomatoes.

The woman, who shared her story on Reddit (not pictured), said she suggested to her neighbour that he move the free community garden tent “to the other side of their driveway” so that her own garden wouldn't be raided by others. (iStock)

However, the neighbor allegedly responded that they would all have to “discuss together a solution that would benefit the entire community.”

The woman wrote in her lengthy post: “I feel like I'm going crazy [expletive].”

She asked others if she was wrong to ask her neighbours to move their free farm stand to another part of their property so that her own garden would not be damaged.

People “steal from me,” she said. “This is food for my family.”

“I don't know why the signs we already have aren't enough.”

Later in an edit, the woman added to her post that she was grateful “for the feedback” she had received about her dilemma.

She also said: “P
