Astronomers have stumbled upon a mysterious object that is emitting unusual signals from deep space, and have no clear idea of its nature.
The object, named ASKAP J1832-0911, generates pulses of radio waves and X-rays for two minutes every 44 minutes.
Discovered by NASA's Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) and Chandra X-ray Observatory, the strange repeating signals remain unexplained. The researchers behind the discovery believe that solving this cosmic mystery could lead to new discoveries in physics. The team reported their findings May 28 in the journal Nature.
