An enraged dad strangled his pregnant 17-year-old daughter to death to preserve the family honour.
The teen, from Mantoli village in India's northeastern Uttarakh and state, was murdered in her bed after it was revealed she was pregnant, according to police.
They also said they suspected the girl had been raped and are investigating how she came to be pregnant.
She had been living with her grandparents, who discovered the pregnancy while escorting her on a hospital visit last week.
They told the girl's father about the pregnancy, who arrived at their house in the early hours of the morning and strangled her as she slept.

He then told villagers the very next day that she had killed herself and he had already buried her body.
Chief officer of Kapkot, Suneeta, told the Times of India: "We had been informed by the hospital on Tuesday that a teenage girl was pregnant.
"Therefore, it could be a case under the POSCO act. However, when we enquired the next day, we found the girl was already dead and buried.
"We have taken the DNA sample of the foetus and are investigating who raped the girl.

"The investigation is on and the culprit will be caught soon."

She was admitted to hospital in Raipur with burns to 80% of her body but later died.
Police said she managed to tell them the identity of her attackers before she died.
