An enraged dad strangled his pregnant 17-year-old daughter to death to preserve the family honour.

The teen, from Mantoli village in India's northeastern Uttarakh and state, was murdered in her bed after it was revealed she was pregnant, according to police.

They also said they suspected the girl had been raped and are investigating how she came to be pregnant.

She had been living with her grandparents, who discovered the pregnancy while escorting her on a hospital visit last week.

They told the girl's father about the pregnancy, who arrived at their house in the early hours of the morning and strangled her as she slept.
