Pokemon fans only just noticing odd detail in Pikachu’s tail

Fan favourite Pokémon character Pikachu has stunned members of the public as they pick up on a strange detail of the cartoon character.

People are only just noticing a strange detail on the tail of a fan-favourite Pokémon character.

Pikachu, which has been a staple of the game series and animated cartoon show for over two decades, has fast become a fan favourite for its use in early advertisements and appearing in almost every episode of the hit series.

But fans are only just noticing a detail on the character’s tail which appears to have been imagined over the years. Some remember clearly the black detail on the ears and tail of Pikachu – but it appears fans are mistaken.

A viral TikTok displaying what we may remember from playing the games or watching the show as kids and the actual Pikachu design has sent shockwaves through the fandom.

Some can hardly believe the strange detail, which has been misremembered by many over the years.

TikTok user @the_great_joe_gillespie revealed the detail which so many had gotten wrong and dubbed it a case of the Mandela Effect in action.

He said: “When my son was younger we used to play the Pokémon card game a lot but I never really used Pikachu, so I don’t remember if he had a stripe on his tail or not. I found a lot of clips of the cartoon with Pikachu in it, but none with a black stripe on his tail. So, I don’t really know what the hell is going on.”

Fans were just as stumped by Joe Gillespie’s revelation, saying they too remembered a black stripe on the creature’s tail.

One user wrote: “Yeah I would draw Pikachu with a black tail because that how I would remember it.” Another puzzled user added: “There was a black stripe. I was obsessed. I remember.”

Dedicated fans appear to have solved why some think Pikachu has a black mark on his tail, referring to an earlier iteration of the character which Pikachu evolves from. One user, replying to the “obsessed” comment, said: “No he didn’t. That’s Pichu, trust. Had the black. I don’t know what you’re talking about but the old school Pikachu did not have that black stripe.”

Some were adamant on the unique detail though, as one user wrote: “He did have a black tip I specifically remember drawing Pikachu when I was lil then I searched him up and he did have a black tail.”

Another budding artist added: “I drew Pikachu with that black stripe on his tail when I was a lot younger. Pretty sure it’s at my parents’ place in one of the closets. I can’t make any sense of this.”
