UK broadband warning – if your postcode is on this list, check your Wi-Fi now

UK homeowners are being advised to check their Wi-Fi speeds and consider switching providers if they are not up to par.

The worst areas of the UK for broadband speeds have recently been revealed, a good reminder for us all to make sure we get the speed we pay for. It looks like some parts of the country are experiencing serious problems with internet access, with speeds being received at home well below the national average of around 70Mbps.

Residents of Greenfields Road in Bishop Auckland (DL14 9TQ) are experiencing the worst broadband in the country, with speeds of just 0.35Mbps, according to new data released by Broadband Genie. At such abysmal speeds, downloading a full Hollywood movie would take over 5 hours, while installing a new game on a PS5 or Xbox console would take almost a week.

In addition to Greenfields Road, residents of Collingdale Road in Northampton (NN3 2TS) and Southcote Farm Lane in Redding (RG30 3DU) are also experiencing internet connection difficulties, with average speeds of less than 0.65Mbps.

Broadband Genie says it ran over 207,000 speed tests to find the top and bottom performers in terms of download speeds to calculate these figures. Surprisingly, there are other places in the UK, such as Taymouth Street in London, where download speeds exceed 900 Mbps – at such a fantastic speed, a full HD film can be downloaded in under 40 seconds!
