Apple just unveiled its newest, best-ever MacBook Pros, powered by the M4 chip—here's what's new.
This week has been a big one for the Mac, as Apple unveiled the new iMac and Mac mini desktops, which – along with a refreshed design – now deliver peak performance. The news doesn’t stop there, however, as the US tech giant also announced its latest MacBook Pro models, which look incredibly powerful.
These updated laptops are powered by Apple’s M4 chip, which is now capable of performing a range of tasks up to 25% faster than before. There are three chip options available, depending on your needs, with fans able to choose the new MacBooks with the standard M4 chip, the more powerful M4 Pro, or the flagship M4 Max.
In addition to being faster, the M4 is also highly energy efficient: Apple claims its laptops can last more than 19 hours without needing to be recharged.
There are also two screen sizes on offer, including a 14-inch and larger 16-inch panel, which are now brighter and can be equipped with a special nano-texture option that reduces glare and reflections.
If you spend a lot of time on video calls, the webcam has gotten an upgrade with the MacBook, now featuring a new 12-megapixel center lens that Apple says provides improved video quality in challenging lighting conditions. It can also follow you around the room to ensure you're always the center of attention.

Owners will also benefit from improved Thunderbolt 5 ports that are faster, and MacBooks will have all the familiar features, such as an aluminum body, Touch ID fingerprint reader, and an advanced ForceTouch trackpad.
They've also been designed to support Apple's upcoming Intelligence update, coming to the UK later this year, which will help you write emails faster, create unique images and find files on your device.
“MacBook Pro is an incredibly powerful tool that millions of people rely on to do their best work, and today we’re making it even better,” said John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “With the powerful M4 chip family and pro features like Thunderbolt 5, an advanced 12MP Center Stage camera, an all-new NanoTexture display, and Apple Intelligence, the new MacBook Pro continues to be the best pro notebook in the world.”
All versions of the new M4 MacBook come with 16GB of RAM as standard and are available in Space Black or Silver. Prices start at £1,599, although the 16-inch version with the M4 Max will cost at least £3,999.
