Patient: 38-year-old woman from New Delhi.
Symptoms: The patient had an emergency C-section in another country, and after the procedure, she noticed pain in her lower right abdomen. Doctors at the time assured her that it was normal post-operative pain and did not conduct a more in-depth examination. A tumor eventually developed in the area, and the pain worsened.
What happened next: Four years after the C-section, the patient sought medical attention at a New Delhi hospital in 2014. Doctors performed an ultrasound and CT scan, which revealed a cyst in the area of pain. However, they were not yet able to determine what was at the root of it. Initially, they assumed it was a mesenteric cyst, a type of benign tumor that can cause discomfort and pain.
