When gardening, you can expect to encounter deep-rooted weeds, worms in the soil, and the occasional clump of clay.
But one man was stunned when he discovered a “creepy box” hidden under the paving stones while remodeling his outdoor space.

Sharing his find online, he stated, “I found a cool time capsule/memorial box while gardening. I was lifting some slabs in the garden and after moving some gravel and dirt, I discovered this creepy little box.”
“I'm not quite sure what to make of this, but there are some interesting souvenirs in there and a charming sketch of a young woman with the words 'Odette' on the back.”
He noted that the box had suffered “significant fire damage” but had withstood the elements for many years.

Hoping to give it to the family of the person who buried it there some 90 years ago, he said, “The only identifying information is the name 'Odette,' written on the back of the drawing. But the pocket edition of the drawing was published in 1939.”

In response to his post, one user commented: “It might be a combination of wax, burn marks, and that ominous symbol, but I'm pretty sure you just unleashed an apocalypse-style curse.”
He went on to explain how he managed to find the previous owner of the house and contact his relative named Lin.
He learned that the box had been buried by his late mother's sister, Lin, but she had not known about it until now.
The man continued, “Lyn moved into the house for a while. She said she felt uncomfortable there. The house originally belonged to her mother's sister, Odette, who lived there until her death in the early 1980s.”
Lin recognized Odette in the sketch, the necklaces, and the butterfly brooch. She knew little about her, as she seemed to keep to herself.
Lyn also mentioned that she said Odette had been a widow for some time and had no children.
Her mother and Odette were practicing Wiccans, but they often fought over the church. The church disbanded when Lyn was a teenager, sometime in the 1960s.
“It was conducted from Odette's house, and only four women participated. I showed her the articles, and she said that since Odette was her mother's only sister, she must have been married to the man whose grave was unfortunately robbed, or to a brother who was also mentioned.
“She thinks that some of Odette's things are among her mother's things.”
