Apple launches smart new iPhone 16e today and you’ll be very surprised by its price

Apple is back with a new iPhone 16e and it comes packed with upgrades for a very reasonable price.

Apple fans are being treated to a shiny new iPhone and it will please anyone whose budget won't stretch to a flagship device. The all-new iPhone 16e has just been unveiled by the US tech firm and it will cost just £599 when it arrives in stores next week. That's £200 less than the iPhone 16 and more than £330 cheaper than going Pro.

So what do you get for that lower price? Well, quite a lot, actually.

Apple's new lower-cost call maker gets a new look. This means its more budget-friendly phone finally ditches the chunky bezels found on the current entry-level iPhone SE (2022) and gets a style that matches devices such as the iPhone 14. That means users get an all-screen look and a bigger 6.1-inch Retina display to watch movies and play games on.

The old-fashioned Touch ID fingerprint scanner has also gone and been replaced with impressive Face ID which not only unlocks the screen in a flash but also offers secure ways to make payments and log into apps.

USB-C charging has been added rather than the older Lightning port and there's impressive battery life from a single charge. In fact, Apple is promising this device will give users the longest power yet from 6.1-inch phone.

Another huge bonus of the new iPhone 16e is its super-charged A18 processor. Despite the lower price, this is the same chip that powers the flagship iPhone 16 range.

With that blistering brain under the hood, users will get full access to the latest Apple Intelligence upgrade that launched in the UK just before Christmas.

Apple Intelligence offers features such as improved Siri, ChatGPT integration, auto image editing plus help writing and editing emails.

Amazingly, the iPhone 16e now beats call makers such as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 14 which aren't powerful enough to access Apple Intelligence.

Those who love snapping photos will find a single-lens 48MP Fusion camera on the rear case with this system able to zoom, offer a Portrait mode and can shoot decent images at night.

Apple is also promising that the iPhone 16e will take stunning videos with the ability to record in 4K with Dolby Vision up to 60 fps, and users can stop and restart a recording for more flexibility when capturing the moment.

Other bonus extras include an Action button for fast access to favourite features – such as the Torch, Camera and Shazam – and it gets full access to Apple's life-saving SOS text messaging and Crash Detection technology.

If any of that sounds enticing, the iPhone 16e will go on sale next week and start from £599 for the 128GB version.

You'll be able to pre-order in two colours starting this Friday, including black and white.

“iPhone 16e packs in the features our users love about the iPhone 16 lineup, including breakthrough battery life, fast performance powered by the latest-generation A18 chip, an innovative 2-in-1 camera system, and Apple Intelligence,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing.

“We’re so excited for iPhone 16e to complete the lineup as a powerful, more affordable option to bring the iPhone experience to even more people.”
