Sky has confirmed the launch of a new Glass TV which is brighter and better than before.
If you love viewing the telly then you might want to watch out for something new from Sky. The television provider has just confirmed the launch of an all-new screen called Sky Glass Gen 2.
This is a blockbuster update from Sky with one of the biggest changes coming to the 4K display. That's thanks to a new Quantum Dot LED HDR screen tucked inside its premium metal chassis. Sky says this upgrade boosts everything, including the colour, contrast, brightness and those all-important blacks. This should make the content look more punchy and rich in detail. The first Sky Glass TV – which launched back in 2021 – faced some criticism for not having a crystal clear image, but that seems to be sorted on this all-new model.
Sky says that this brighter 4K Quantum Dot display "delivers crystal clear picture, while new advanced HDR and precision contrast enhancement make darks darker and brights brighter".
Along with boosting that all-important image, Sky also says the viewing angles have been upgraded – that means wherever you sit in the room, you should get a perfect picture.
Another bonus is "Auto modes" which ensure things are set perfectly for the type of content you are watching. The TV will switch the settings automatically when you settle down to binge on a movie or fancy a night of Premier League action.
It's not just about the viewing experience on Sky Glass Gen 2. Tucked under the screen is a refreshed soundbar with 360-degree Dolby Atmos, which should offer far more immersive audio. There are seven speakers in total – including an up-firing boom box – with Sky promising richer bass and clearer vocals. It's also compatible with Dolby Atmos content for even better sound.
Voice control is still included to provide easy access to content, recordings and controls. Playlists also get better with recordings stored in a more easily accessible space.
Simple setup is still a big feature of Sky Glass, with one cable powering the screen, in-built receiver and soundbar. Of course, like the original Glass, Gen 2 is powered by the internet so there's no need for a dish.
An improved stand also comes as standard with homes not even needing a screwdriver to get things up and running.
Speaking about the launch, Fraser Stirling, Global Chief Product Officer for Comcast and Sky said: “We built Sky Glass as a brilliantly simple way for people to watch TV, making it easier to find the things they love from Sky and streaming apps.
"The new Sky Glass Gen 2 gives people our best TV experience yet, with a brighter picture and even more cinematic sound, and with flexible ways to buy it, it's more affordable than ever to get Sky TV.”
It will ship in three colours: Volcanic grey, Arctic silver, and Atlantic blue. You can buy it starting tomorrow in three sizes: 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch. Prices start from £14 per month – that's the same cost as Sky Glass Gen 1
It's worth noting that the £14 price is just for the TV and not the content, which costs extra.
