WhatsApp says an 'annoying' update is coming to your phone and there's no way to stop it

Some iPhone and Android users have expressed their displeasure over an “annoying” WhatsApp update that will soon be available to everyone.

Mirror Online recently revealed a new WhatsApp update that has suddenly started appearing on some devices. The change, which some users have described as “annoying”, removes the popular “Typing” feature that appears at the top of the screen when friends and family reply to messages.

This feature is known and appreciated by WhatsApp users, but it has now been replaced by three little dots that jump up when a contact types a reply.

This may seem like a small change, but it raises a lot of questions.

“Hey @WhatsApp, can we bring back the old way of displaying typing? These jumping dots are getting annoying,” Farah wrote in a post on X.

Ms Howe exclaimed: “WhatsApp now has a three-dot typing feature like iMessage and I don't like it!”

These dots have been used in Apple's iMessage for some time, but this is the first time WhatsApp has adopted the system, and it will soon be available on all devices.

“We're rolling out new typing indicators to WhatsApp – a visual update that shows in real time who's present and typing in a chat.

“Now when someone starts typing in a group or private chat, a visual cue “…” appears at the bottom of the chat along with their profile photo.

“This new indicator helps you quickly see who's available, typing, and actively participating in the conversation, which is especially useful in group chats.”

The exact timing of this feature is unknown at this time, but you can expect it to start impacting your responses in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, if you don't like it either, there's nothing you can do to stop these changes.
