A popular iced tea brand has caused a stir on social media after posting a message saying goodbye to a new flavour.
Lipton appeared to hint in an Instagram post on Tuesday that its peach flavor would be discontinued. However, in a separate post Wednesday morning, Lipton confirmed that “peach flavor is here to stay.”
It turned out to be a marketing ploy that became an early April Fool's joke.
“Oh, has March not started yet?” reads the message published on Wednesday.
“I got the dates mixed up… I thought it was April Fools' Day already! I would never take [your favorite flavor] away from you, farts.”

The post also said Lipton would send a surprise gift to fans who “react best” to the fake news.
“Your dedication to Peach has not gone unnoticed.”
It was a complete contrast to the British brand's post the day before, when Lipton posted an image of its can of peach with angel wings, along with the message: “Relax in peach.”
“You may have heard that our iconic Lipton Ice Tea Peach flavor is being discontinued,” read the message accompanying the post.
“We know it's painful (sorry if we ruined your favorite afternoon cocktail). But don't worry, the rest of your favorite drinks are still available to keep you energized. And who knows? Maybe one day Peach will make a legendary comeback.”
A post on Lipton's Instagram page told fans that the popular peach iced tea could be “making a legendary comeback.” However, a follow-up post indicated that Lipton Peach Ice Tea “will remain on the market.” (iStock)
The hashtag #RIPeach was also used on the graphic.
The backlash was immediate, with one Lipton follower calling it “disgraceful” in the comments, while another wrote: “What other flavours even exist?”
The post, published on Wednesday, has sparked a storm of criticism online from fans of the drink.
One user said he “literally emailed the prime minister about this.”
Another user noted: “If anyone wants a bottle of Lipton Peach, I probably bought 345 cases of 12 bottles yesterday.”

Another person remarked: “Don't call me a fool after this stunt.”
The original post garnered more than 169,000 comments, and a follow-up post had nearly 5,000 comments as of Wednesday afternoon.
Fox News Digital made multiple attempts to reach Lipton and PepsiCo for comment. PepsiCo jointly operates Lipton's ready-to-drink iced teas through a joint venture with London-based Unilever.
