Life after death: ‘I was pulled from my body’ says woman in shock near-death experience

A WOMAN who claims to have nearly died 23 years ago believes life after death is real and “an afterlife definitely exists”.

The woman, who only introduced herself as Theresa, claims to have left her body after a swimming accident in 1997 left her fighting for her life. Theresa shared her memories with the Near-Death Experience Research Foundation (NDERF). According to her account, she went swimming at the deep end of a swimming pool when she lost her grip on a pool noodle.

Theresa said: “I panicked, wailed, and splashed around. I tried three times to reach the surface.

“The water in my mouth and throat kept me from screaming, ‘Help me!’

“I felt a fear like nothing I had ever known. Pure terror took hold of me as a million thoughts rushed my mind.”

Theresa said she then slipped under the water as the world around her turned to darkness.

She compared the experience to sleeping but without dreaming.

Theresa then saw herself as if she has slipped out of her body.

She said: “I was floating at the bottom corner of the pool.

“My hair covered my face and my arms were limp as they were suspended in front of me.

“The rainbow colours of my suit were brighter than ever before.

“I immediately knew it was me. Yet, I was not her anymore because I was watching me.”

Theresa said the experience was peaceful and she was overcome with certainty.

Then, she felt like she was being pulled upwards and away from her body.

The woman said she was felt warm and was no longer surrounded by water.

Theresa said: “I was in warm, pure light. It felt like a hug from a true mother. It was beautiful serenity.”

She was then brought back and saw an emergency medical technician trying to grab her attention.

In the years after the NDE, Theresa said she has never feared water and believes life carries on after death.

She said: “An afterlife definitely exists. I saw my own body.

“I was me and she was not me. I existed without the ‘shell’ of a body.”

Most scientists, however, agree there is no medical evidence to back claims the afterlife is real.

Many NDEs are characterised by similar out-of-body experiences or visions of light and angelic beings.

There are most likely natural explanations such hallucinations triggered by insufficient oxygen in the brain.

Dr Sam Parnia, director of critical care and resuscitation research at NYU Langone School of Medicine in New York City, said during an OZ Talk: “People describe a sensation of a bright, warm, welcoming light that draws people towards it.

“They describe a sensation of experiencing their deceased relatives, almost as if they have come to welcome them.”
