Amazon has unveiled a new haptic robot that can pick up and place about three-quarters of the items in its warehouses.
According to the e-commerce giant, the new robot, named Vulcan, can accurately determine the amount of pressure needed to pick up and move warehouse items based on their size, dimensions and density.
“Vulcan is a significant step forward in robotics,” Aaron Parness, director of applied science at Amazon, said in a statement. “It’s not just about seeing the world, it’s about experiencing it, which opens up possibilities that Amazon robots have never been able to do before.”
