Some WhatsApp users are facing restrictions on access to the popular messenger.
If you have an older iPhone, you may soon notice that it is no longer supported by WhatsApp. This information was provided by the usually reliable team at WAbetaInfo, who reported that they had found a notification warning some users that their device would soon lose access to the very popular messenger,
“WhatsApp will stop supporting this version of iOS after May 5, 2025. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update to install the latest version of iOS,” reads the notification that appears on some devices.
With over 3 billion users worldwide, this is certainly a concern, but if you have a relatively new iPhone in your pocket, you should be fine.
The upcoming block, which will go into effect next spring, will apparently affect iPhones that are unable to update to iOS 15.1 or later. This will mostly affect owners of models like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, which were released more than 10 years ago.
Those still using an iPhone 6 or 5s now have six months to upgrade to a new device or they will lose access to their WhatsApp chats.
According to WAbetaInfo, “One of the main reasons for this change is that new versions of iOS come with updated APIs and improved technologies that WhatsApp relies on to deliver new features. By dropping support for older versions, WhatsApp will be able to optimize the app and introduce new features that are simply not possible on older operating systems.”
That may not be the only reason to upgrade your iPhone. Apple is about to release an Apple Intelligence update that will add a number of smart features to the devices, including automatic image editing, improved Siri, and even the ability to compose emails for you.
“Apple Intelligence will be available for localized English in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK in December,” Apple recently confirmed in an update.
Coming soon to iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max — stay tuned.
