A waitress at an Italian restaurant apparently humiliated a customer in front of a full house by forcing him to return his tip, an online forum reported.
The 32-year-old took to Reddit to share his story, questioning whether he was wrong to take the money after his dinner didn't go as planned.
“This happened a few nights ago and I just can't believe it happened like this,” he wrote in a post last week.
He said he and his 29-year-old girlfriend had already dined at the establishment.
He noted that the place was not luxurious, but was suitable for a “relaxed evening” with a glass of wine.

However, the service that evening left much to be desired, he said.
The waitress allegedly “lost” his drink twice, brought the wrong appetizer to him and his girlfriend, and “disappeared for what seemed like an eternity” when they were about to order dessert.
He paid and left a 10 percent tip in cash, which he thought was “reasonable given the circumstances,” he said.
“We were just about to leave when [the waitress] came over, took the money and said, 'Really? That's it?'” he continued. “She said it out loud. A few people at the next tables turned and stared.”
He said he was amazed.
“And then she muttered, 'Oh well, misers.'”
“Then she added, ‘You know, it’s people like you that keep waiters from paying rent… If you can’t leave a decent tip, don’t come to restaurants.’”
The man said everyone in the restaurant froze when his girlfriend pulled away in embarrassment, but he remained calm and told the waitress: “I'm sorry you feel that way.”
But then she muttered, “Whatever you say, miser.”

This was the last straw for the confused guy.
He returned to the table, put the tip in his pocket and “left without saying another word.”
“I think it's too much to berate and humiliate me for the 10 percent tip I actually left,” he said.
His girlfriend later told him his reaction was “normal”, but a friend said he had gone too far.
So he took to Reddit, asking others if he was wrong to “take the tip after she yelled at us in front of everyone in the restaurant.”
“She expected and then demanded good tips for poor work.”
Many users expressed their support, saying they wouldn't have left a tip either.
“She expected and then demanded a good tip for a bad job,” one user wrote. “You were kind enough to leave her something, but she chose to be ungrateful.”
Another participant added: “The whole point of tipping is to encourage the waiter to do a good job.”
One user noted that the man's “petty” act could have had an impact on his co-workers who shared their tips with the waitress. (iStock)
