In the service industry, there is hardly a busier place at any time of year than the Costco food court.
One Reddit user recently shared his memories of his first day on the job and how he wanted to quit.
Reddit user “Ok-Development4027” wrote about his experience on a Costco discussion page.
“First day working at Costco food court. I want to quit,” he wrote in a post that quickly garnered more than 1,000 comments and counting.

When it came time to start his first shift from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., he admitted he thought the eight-hour schedule, including a 30-minute break, was “already too long for my first day, but I shrugged it off.”
He quickly realized that he was “in luck” once he started working.
A new food court worker noted that the flow of customers “was constant in the morning, but it got worse in the evening.”
He said he didn't know what his job was.
By 6 or 7 p.m., he said, he “wanted to leave” because “everything was unbearably noisy.”
He compared himself to “an animal in a zoo, being watched closely by all the visitors while I try to move as quickly as possible.”

The newbie noted that “every two minutes a whole pizza is gone and I think I'm going to have to quit.”
He added that he did not understand his role: “They tell me that I am the closing one, but I was [there] in the morning doing preparatory work.”
“Still, my first day [there] was extremely tiring, and perhaps that's how it should be.”
Commentators were mostly optimistic, encouraging him and saying that things would get better and he should keep up the good work.

“The job can be grueling in the early days,” one commenter wrote. “Do the best you can and by next week you'll be a pro. You'll get it.”
“Some positions are not suitable for everyone.”
“Just remember that EVERYONE, especially the hiring manager, wants you to succeed and be a star,” another user noted.
However, some commentators noted that leaving a job is okay.
“Agreed, but if you get bored after 3 weeks, resign and find something that suits you,” one person wrote.
“And some jobs aren't for everyone,” another commenter added. “It's totally fine if this guy wants to leave and find a new place.”
