A retail store in Scottsboro, Alabama, breathes new life into lost luggage by selling items left behind by travelers. Unclaimed Baggage attracts over a million visitors annually and hosts guests from over 40 countries.

A traveler shared an unexpected request from a hotel after booking a room through Expedia.

After finding a special deal on a travel site and receiving confirmation of her purchase, the woman received a message from the hotel, she wrote in the r/travel thread.

She reported that hotel staff demanded that she cancel her reservation.

“I booked a special rate on Expedia and got confirmation. A few days later the hotel messaged me via Expedia messaging asking me to cancel because they were having trouble with the low rate!!,” she wrote.

“I contacted Expedia and the agent said the reservation was confirmed and the hotel was obligated to honor it unless I cancelled.”

The woman said that after speaking with the Expedia representative, she contacted the hotel again.

“I called the hotel and told them the response from Expedia, but they got angry and threatened that if I didn't cancel the reservation, they would refuse to accommodate me,” she wrote on Reddit.

According to a comment in the thread, Expedia has reached out to the Reddit user.

“We are committed to ensuring our travelers have a positive experience when they book with us and are doing everything we can to support them in the event of an unexpected situation. Hotels are expected to honor reservations unless there are extraordinary circumstances, in which case our relocation team will provide assistance,” an Expedia spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“If a hotel asks a traveler to cancel a reservation due to price, they should contact Expedia customer service via our 24/7 virtual agent on the site or in the app. If a partner consistently creates a bad experience for travelers, we will investigate and resolve the issue directly. However, in this situation, we did not have the necessary information about the hotel to take further action.”

A traveler on Reddit asked other users if they had ever encountered a similar situation and sought advice.

“Don't cancel your reservation. If you cancel, the hotel won't be responsible and Expedia may charge you fees. If they cancel, you won't be responsible for the fees, they will,” one Reddit user commented.

Many users advised the woman not to take risks and not to go on such a long trip, given that the hotel is located in the Middle East, as she may be denied registration.

“[You] don't want to be in a hotel in a foreign country and find out they don't have a room for you. Being right doesn't help in these situations,” one user noted.

“This hotel has made it clear they don't want you to stay. This is the end of the relationship. Focusing on whether they SHOULD honor the agreement is irrelevant. You have no real power to make them honor this agreement, so take your money and rebook elsewhere,” another user said.
