Your Sky TV box will lose two of your favourite channels tomorrow as the popular service shuts down

From tomorrow, UK residents will no longer be able to access Eurosport.

British sports fans will be in for a surprise this week as the popular Eurosport service is closing for good. The changes were announced earlier this year but the deadline has now passed and everything will go offline tomorrow, February 28. It ends an era for the channels, which have broadcast sporting events from around the world for more than 30 years.

Some programming that was available on Eurosport, such as the Tour de France, tennis, the Australian Open, snooker and the Olympics, will move to TNT and Discovery+.

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), which currently operates Eurosport and owns TNT Sports, has yet to confirm exactly what the new programming schedule will look like or whether all the content currently shown on Eurosport will be integrated into TNT's channels or a new service will be launched to cover additional events.

“We understand that viewers want a more convenient way to find their favourite sports,” said Scott Young, head of WBD Sports Europe.

“This move will also help maximise benefits for our leagues and federation partners as we continue our 35-year commitment to investing in and promoting sport on our screens.

“We are creating the best sports and entertainment profile in the country. People can choose how they want to interact with us in the short term. We are investing in cycling.

“The key thing is the ecosystem of sports content in this market and the fact that sports fans can now go to one place rather than trying to choose where to go.”

While the news will likely be disappointing for some Sky and Virgin customers who will lose two popular channels tomorrow, there is better news for those watching TV via Freeview.

WBD says it will expand some of its sports offerings available on its free-to-air Quest channel.

This means Freeview users will soon be able to enjoy all the MotoGP Sprint races, as well as a new weekly cycling show, plus highlights from the Giro d'Italia and La Vuelta a España.
